Industriosa Natura is the proposal for a new public space for the Confindustria Bergamo headquarters at Kilometro Rosso. A square-garden designed to stimulate encounters and exchanges.
The presented proposal is born from the synthesis of themes related to the territory and the spirit of its inhabitants, the idea of nature as an element to celebrate and preserve, and the meaning of industry as technological advancement carried out in harmony with its context. For this reason, the layout of the square is conceived as a garden inspired by an ancestral relationship between nature and people, that of the cultivated field: a large meadow through which the passage of the seasons, the tenacity of nature, and the care of man can be observed.
The proposal for the Industriosa Natura square represents an attempt to respond to actual needs without renouncing to a form of abstraction, thus creating a place that not only addresses the needs of its users but also creates a rich scenario for the imagination. The choice of the four themes around which the garden is arranged regulates the spaces and supports the natural vocation of each area:
Earth – As a garden that spontaneously grows between the tiles, designed to increase the area's biodiversity and create a green corridor between the natural environments surrounding the built area.
Water – As a moving fountain placed along the entrance axis to the headquarters, designed to improve the environmental quality and provide an acoustic diversion from the usual noise of machines and airplanes.
Air – As movable thematic sculptures powered by the wind, symbols of energy and the strength of nature, placed along the most prominent channel of the square.
Fire – Interpreted ancestrally as a hearth around which people gather, it translates into a circular pavilion under which one can stay, discuss, and find shelter from the sun and rain.
Nature_ To best represent the choice of the field and spontaneous vegetation growing through the existing soil, the garden’s design is based on the tile module currently present at the project site. Regarding the choice of plants, these were selected for their shallow root systems, capable of growing in thin, well-drained, sandy soils.
Industry _ The theme of industry finds expression in the devices placed within the garden. These are designed as small metal structures/sculptures, intended to enrich the possibilities of using the space, but also as artistic and symbolic elements within the square.
